The torture and killing of these real animals is one of those movies.
In one of the hardest movies to watch, and nearly impossible to watch, Cannibal Ferox was directed by Umberto Lenzi and like many other films of the late 70s and early 80s, is an Italian production on Amazon. The premise is pretty simple: a group of white men head into the forest to prove the fact that only cannibals ever find humans in existence. But it is our own civilization that makes them that way. Although there is a similar theme in Cannibal Holocaust, this movie keeps everything explicit and on the nose.
There’s no room for narrative in this movie, just a lot of frightening images. Whereas the problem many people have with this type of movie is that many scenes are shocking just for the sake of shock. Unfortunately, that was the case with Cannibal Ferox, who had torture and kill more animals than Ted Nugent’s house on Sunday afternoon. While some might argue that the featured scene is just Nature, to me there is nothing about tying a mongoose to a stick and letting the python slowly kill and eat it, screaming “Hey, this should be at Nat Geo! ”
